The Scoop on Sweat

building muscle general health watch (videos) May 22, 2017

Sweat is the first line of defense in order to keep your body’s internal temperature at a safe level for your vital organs. When your body temperature rises, your body has to find ways to divert the heat away from your core and sweat is your body’s preferred mechanism.

So what if you are not a “sweat-er”???

If you don’t sweat much or often from exercise, it does not automatically mean that there is something wrong with your body. It is very rare for me to sweat, and when I do it’s very little. I think it’s safe to say that I am a pretty healthy person.

Now, if during workouts you get overheated, hot and red-faced but don’t actually sweat much, it’s worth spending some time on better understanding your body. These signs are telling you that heat is not dissipating very effectively.

You can be perfectly healthy and have no real need to sweat. If during your workouts, you get your heart rate up, feel energized, and work hard, it might be perfectly normal to not sweat much.

And what if you sweat a ton, all the time???

High five! This simply means that your body prefers to dissipate heat through sweat and it does it very well. Additionally, sweat is a tool for detoxification. Most research says that a good sweat is a good thing! Your body is very effectively removing toxins and transferring heat away from your internal organs.
