“For most of my life I struggled with self image and my body weight and wanted to change that. I always thought that my self image would improve as my weight improved - that they were one and the same. But really, it was about not having a lot of confidence, feeling badly about myself. It all started by wanting to be thinner and more fit. I also had pain on my left side that would ache and I was struggling to manage it, and knew I wouldn't be able to bike and do the things I wanted. I wanted to be lighter, fit, and pain free.
After getting stronger at home, I realized that I would have to start going to a gym if I wanted to progress. And that was a real hurdle for me getting to the point of being comfortable with that I was just intimidated by the downstairs at my gym, which is where all the machines that type of equipment is. In our coaching calls [for The Body Composition Project] Holly helped me learn how to use the squat rack, which was confusing and scary at first. I just started getting comfortable there and now I am squatting confidently. I lost some weight, but gained 4 pounds of muscle! And just look a lot more fit.
